Dalal Mawad is an award-winning Lebanese journalist and author of “All She Lost”, a non-fiction book ( Bloomsbury Publishing) that chronicles the collapse of Lebanon and the Beirut blast through women stories. She is currently Al Araby TV’s Paris-based correspondent. Before that, Mawad worked for CNN in Paris as a senior producer covering France and Europe. She was also a seasonal writer for New Lines Magazine and a seasonal commentator on NPR, France 24, BBC World Service and other media outlets. Mawad was a senior producer and correspondent for AP in Beirut between 2019 and 2021, her bylines have been published in the Washington Post and New York Times. She was at the forefront of Lebanon’s 2019 protests as well as the Beirut blast of August 4th 2020. Mawad is the winner of the Samir Kassir Award for the Freedom of the Press in 2020 for her short film on a transgender woman in Lebanon. She was also a finalist for the same award in 2012 for an investigative story on Lebanon’s Jews. Mawad has also worked as a regional video producer for the United Nations Refugee Agency covering displacement in the Middle East and the world. She also produced for the team of the UNHCR special envoy Angelina Jolie. Previous to her work at the UN, she was an on-air reporter with LBCI, a Lebanese broadcaster, where she mainly covered human rights, gender-based violence and environmental issues. She broke the story of child sexual abuse in Lebanon’s Catholic and Orthodox churches.
Between 2012 and 2013, Mawad worked as a deputy news editor for Al Jazeera English in Doha covering the war in Syria.
She has a Master’s degree in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and another Master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University in New York where she graduated with honors and was awarded the Joan Konner award for outstanding reporting for Television and Radio. She is fluent in Arabic , French, English and Spanish.
